Event: Slide Projector & The Funky Bunch

Who: Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players
When: Friday, May 2
Where: Vic Theatre
Cost: $20 per ticket
Website: www.slideshowplayers.com
About: I first heard of this band a few years ago... and well let me tell you - a mom, a dad & a little one have never been quite so eclectic. The story of the Trachenburg's goes a little something like this:
*Family goes garage saling
*Family finds old projector slides
*Family purchases slides, writes songs about slides - and performs live as the slides advance from behind.
All songs are fictional tales of their perception of what just might have happened in those slides. A very interesting and unique concept that you are sure not to simply stumble upon all too often. I highly urge you check out this performance - as a bit of nostalgia is sure to be in store - something reminiscing an old red plastic View-Master... Oh, the toys of yesteryears - what fun!!!

(Note: Unfortunately, they are supporting headliner Kate Nash - so I can't promise a full and lengthy show, but I'm sure it will be worthwhile regardless.)

Person: The Singing Cab Driver

Who: Ray St. Ray
Where: All Around Chicago
Cost: Regular Cab Fare + Tip ($2.25 plus each additional 1/9 mile)
About: It was a sunny day back in 2004 when my co-workers & I were leaving work to head to a softball game at Grant Park - we were lucky enough to hail down what we believed to be a regular cab, but much to our surprise it was Ray St. Ray, The Singing Cab Driver. This "Urban Legend Come to Life" is sure to bring a little laugher to your ride from Point A to Point B. Once you plop down in the car - he asks you to pick a topic - something along the lines of "Love", "Sex", "Social Significance" or "Other". Going into our ride & not knowing a thing about The Singing Cab Driver (but rather thinking we were on an episode of HBO's Taxi Cab Confessions), I do remember that my friends & I chose "Sex"... and it was quite humorous. Hopefully you get so lucky someday - in the meantime - check him out on Myspace.
